Bayet Frères
This is
a fine copy from Liège of the British Bull Dog N°2 revolver introduced by the
Englishman Webley of Birmingham in 1873-1875. On the website you can find a lot
of information about these Bull Dogs.
This
revolver is in excellent condition and its workmanship seems to be of good
quality. The calibre is probably the European 450. The marking of the
manufacturer BFB between two crossed swords indicates without hesitation a
production by Bayet Frères as noted by HPH.
The
second B may mean Brothers (according to HPH), Belgium or Belgium (according to
Chris), but more likely Breveté (Patented) (according to PHL).
The
markings :
English
Bull-Dog on the carcass, instead of the common British Bull Dog marking. This
name has previously been used on several Liège Bull Dogs revolvers (cf. Gordon
Bruce in Gun Digest 2011, pages 80-81).
BFB mark
awarded to Bayet Frères.
Countermark N spangled on the left side of the carcase and inside the barrel.
Classic
ELG oval inside the barrel.
Markings
DC and JC crowned under the right plate. This mark is already spotted on the
site, but there is no certainty as to its origin :
